There are so many all natural makeup brands out there, if you are anything like me when I decided to switch my makeup you are probably on the point of giving up. It is soooo complicated, checking on think dirty or EWG’s skin deep but they have different ratings and neither of them tell you if the product actually works! So here are some of the brands I have used and whose products work as well if not better than ordinary toxic makeup.
Backstory: RMS was started by a very experienced make-up artist Rose-Marie Swift. Her story is interesting as a few years ago she had some serious health issues and following a series of tests she found that her blood had toxic levels of chemicals in it, many of which are found in everyday cosmetics. So she decided to started her own toxic free line! I think so many people who make the switch to clean, natural makeup have similar stories.
Products I love:
UN Cover up – a concealer but it was so good I actual use it as a foundation sometimes because it is super easy to carry around in your handbag
Lip2Cheek – as the name suggests great on both lips and cheeks!
Not all products are rated but these are the ratings for what is there: EWG rating: 1 for the un cover up. Think dirty rating: Both the above products have a rating of 0 so they are super clean and the rest of the products are all between 0 & 3.
Backstory: Inika is an all natural makeup brand. They are Australian and most of their ingredients are certified organic – so free from nasty pesticides as well as synthetic chemicals. Miranda Bond founded Inika after having successfully overcome infertility. She had completely changed her lifestyle by getting rid of all potentially toxic chemicals from her personal care products but she couldn’t find any good all natural makeup brands so she started her own line.
Products I love:
Certified organic liquid mineral foundation – this has a lovely light but even coverage which gives me a healthy glow even when I am exhausted from a baby waking me several times a night!
Mineral Blusher puff pot – wasn’t sure about this one when I bought it online but it is super easy to use and the tone is lovely – I got rosy glow.
It’s an Australian brand so not in either think dirty or EWG skin deep. But I did cross-check the ingredients in EWG and it all rates between 1 & 3.
Backstory: 100% Pure is a US company with a true commitment to creating pure, natural products. Susie Wang the founder was working in labs for some major cosmetics brands when a series of things lead her to realise just how toxic some of these chemicals that are in our makeup were. She decided she wanted to go out on her own to create something better! 100% Pure only uses fruit pigments to colour their products something that Susie discovered and patented.
Products I love:
Black Tea Ultra Lengthening Mascara – effective lengthening and doesn’t smudge easily
Fruit Pigmented Healthy Foundation – this is one of the better higher coverage natural foundations on the market
Think dirty has a lot of 100% Pure products and they are rated between 0 & 3 for makeup. The Skincare and hair care does get higher ratings though so need to check those more closely. EWG only has 6 products with ratings between 1 & 6. I would not want to use anything with a rating above 3. They use Retinyl palmitate in their concentrated serum which has a rating of 9 – so avoid that!
There are more great all natural makeup brands…
I will keep writing about the ones I find and do the fact checking on with an aim to make it easier for you to make the switch to not only cleaner, less toxic makeup but also makeup that works well, so you dont feel you are compromising on efficacy! I really think that if people could find an equivalent of their favourite products but just in a more natural, less toxic version the cosmetics industry would be completely turned on its head and these brands above that you have maybe never heard of would be on everyone’s lips!
Do let me know what brands you have tried and liked, did you look them up? How would you like to make this process easier for others?
